Charah Secures Ash Marketing Contract with Dynegy

dynegyLOUISVILLE, KY (October 25, 2016) – Charah®, Inc., a total solutions company providing unparalleled service and innovation for the coal-fired power generation industry, today announced that it recently has entered into an agreement to manage and beneficially use the coal combustion products (CCPs) produced by two Dynegy Inc. facilities in Ohio.

As part of this long-term agreement, Charah will sell and market 100% of the high quality, specification grade Class F fly ash from Dynegy’s Miami Fort Station in North Bend, Ohio and from its Zimmer Power Station in Moscow, Ohio for beneficial use. Available to ship by truck and rail, Charah expects to market the fly ash from both facilities to concrete product manufacturers and ready-mix concrete producers throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and other regional markets, providing customers with multiple supply options of high quality fly ash.

The use of fly ash in concrete products offers benefits in both the hardened and plastic state of concrete. In addition to improving the finish product quality, using fly ash in concrete products and other applications not only eliminates the need to dispose of fly ash in landfills, it also significantly reduces the overall carbon footprint and conserves our natural resources by replacing materials that would otherwise have to be mined and processed for these products.

In addition, Charah will market bottom ash and contract for other material handling at both Dynegy locations.

“This agreement will help Dynegy move towards 100% beneficial re-use of our byproducts,” stated Todd A. Stinson, Manager of Byproducts and Reagents, Dynegy Inc. “Charah’s presence in the Ohio River region and broad terminal network will be a major factor of achieving this goal.”

According to Charles Price, Charah President and CEO, “As the largest privately-held fly ash sales and CCP management company in the United States, Charah is pleased to enter into this multi-plant agreement with Dynegy. We believe that our innovative solutions and superior service will continue to pay dividends for our utility partners and their consumers. Furthermore, we will be able to ensure a steady and reliable supply of ash for the ready-mix concrete producers during a time of substantial change in the utility and fly ash industry.”
