Charah Certified by Coalition for Construction Safety and Eligible to Participate in Indiana Department of Labor Certified Partnership

LOUISVILLE, KY (February 24, 2016) – Charah®, Inc., a total solutions company providing unparalleled service and innovation for the coal-fired power generation industry, announced today that it has received the highest level of achievement and has been safety certified by the Coalition for Construction Safety (CCS). As a certified company, Charah is eligible to participate in the CCS – Indiana Department of Labor (IDOL) Certified Partnership.

Formerly known as the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety (MICCS) and recently renamed due to its expanded geographic footprint beyond metropolitan Indianapolis, CCS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of construction and facilities maintenance jobsite injuries and illnesses with the ultimate objective of returning construction and maintenance workers home to their families, friends and communities free from harm.

The CCS Certification Program is a complete safety program evaluation which is the primary tool for owners, construction managers and contractors of all types. Many of CCS’s owners and construction managers use the program as a safety pre-qualification tool and require all contractors on their sites to complete the evaluation process. The online system allows owners and construction managers to review, compare, and evaluate criteria from contractors and subcontractors, reducing the amount of time and effort it takes to find qualified vendors.

The program is also the gold standard in safety. To become a “CCS Certified Company” means that a company’s three-year average safety performance is among the top 20% of construction companies in the nation, the company has no cited fatalities, the company meets all of the Safety Program Review Score (SPRS) mandatory criteria and scores 50% or higher on the SPRS best practices. Finally, the company must pass a rigorous home office audit. Each year CCS provides an extensive review of a company’s safety program and validates that the statistics in the program’s database are what was also reported to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The four classifications of the certification are CCS Safety Certified, CCS/IDOL Certified Partner, CCS Safety Qualified, and Participant.

“We are honored to receive the highest level of the certification by CCS in recognition of our uncompromising commitment to safety,” said Charles Price, President and CEO of Charah. “This certification is a great accomplishment for our company and provides verification to our current and future customers of the emphasis that Charah puts on safe work practices.”
