LOUISVILLE, KY (November 10, 2016) – Charah®, Inc., a total solutions company providing unparalleled service and innovation for the coal-fired power generation industry, today announced that it launched a joint venture in early 2016 with VHSC Holdings, LLC to market fly ash from the NRG Limestone production facility in Jewett, Texas.
The NRG plant currently generates approximately 500,000 tons per year of Class F fly ash that is shipped to end users via truck and direct rail. As part of announced changes, the facility will begin producing Class C fly ash in early 2017.
As part of this agreement, the joint venture company, CV Ash, will sell high quality specification grade fly ash from this facility to ready mix concrete producers and other end users throughout the region. VHSC Holdings will continue to use its patented process to produce additional materials used in the construction industry.
The use of fly ash in concrete products offers benefits in both the hardened and plastic state of concrete. In addition to improving the finish product quality, using fly ash in concrete products and other applications not only eliminates the need to dispose of fly ash in landfills, it also significantly reduces the overall carbon footprint and conserves our natural resources by replacing materials that would otherwise have to be mined and processed for these products.
According to Charles Price, Charah President and CEO, “As the largest privately-held fly ash sales and CCP management company in the United States, Charah is pleased to enter into this agreement with VHSC Holdings. Furthermore, we will be able to ensure a steady and reliable supply of ash for the ready mix concrete producers during a time of substantial change in the utility and fly ash industry.”
