At Charah Solutions, safety is one of our core values. We are dedicated to maintaining a safe working environment and training our employees and subcontractors to not only perform their jobs safely but also to proactively contribute to a safe workplace.
This dedication speaks for itself. Our record in safety excellence includes these notable statistics:
An incident rate that is less than half of the national
average for common work classification
A three-year average Experience Modification
Rate (EMR) of less than 0.54
With our employees compiling more than 100,000 man-hours per month, we take a proactive approach to safety training and procedures. We have an in-house Safety Department that includes highly trained professionals who are accredited Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) trainers, along with a full-time transportation specialists in both over-the-road (OTR) and rail operations.
Transportation audits are conducted on all road trucks used by our contractors, as well as company-owned units. Each vehicle must be inspected and meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Charah Solutions requirements prior to traveling on public roadways. Charah Solutions has a zero-tolerance policy for substance abuse, and we oversee random drug tests on every employee and contracted driver, to ensure compliance.
SAFETY TRAINING
Each of Charah Solutions’ site managers is required to complete an OSHA 30-hour Safety Training class. We train each of our employees in both general construction safety as well as areas that are specific to the risks related to the type of work being performed. Each new employee receives a minimum of six hours of mandatory safety training, followed by compliance training and additional site-specific training for his or her assignment.
Safety is never static. At Charah Solutions, we’re always exploring new ways to analyze and improve our work sites and our employees attention to safety.
