LOUISVILLE, KY (April 24, 2019) – Charah® Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: CHRA), a leading provider of environmental and maintenance services to the power generation industry, announced today that it received two prestigious safety awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) in April for an outstanding record of employee safety in 2018. This is the eighth consecutive year that Charah Solutions has been recognized by the NCDOL for its safety record, and additional project sites are expected to be recognized this spring and summer.
Charah Solutions was recognized for its safety record at its structural fill project at the Brickhaven Mine in Chatham County, North Carolina for the fourth consecutive year, and at Duke Energy’s Cliffside Steam Station in Shelby, North Carolina for the seventh consecutive year.
Both sites received a Gold-level Certificate of Safety Achievement, the state’s highest safety award, in recognition of Charah Solutions’ outstanding on-the-job safety and health efforts and the promotion of safe working conditions in 2018. The Gold Award is based on a days away, restricted or transferred (DART) rate that is at least 50 percent below the statewide rate for the industry. Awards were presented by North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry.
This annual awards program, run by the NCDOL, recognizes private and public companies that achieve and maintain a high level of safety. In order to qualify, each company must have had no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given and must have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group.
“We are honored to continue to receive these important awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor year after year in recognition of our commitment to safety,” said Scott Sewell, President and CEO of Charah Solutions. “Safety is our foremost priority and we are always exploring new ways to improve our worksites and our employees’ attention to safety.”
