Gulf Coast Fly Ash Supply

SITUATION

Concrete producers demand the quality and availability that fly ash brings to every project, with all the advantages of added strength, durability, increased workability and improved finish product quality. Supply of quality Class F fly ash for the Gulf Coast could not meet the demand of the increasing number of construction projects in states like Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

SOLUTION

To meet the growing demand for fly ash in the region, Charah Solutions expanded its MultiSource® materials network with the addition of barge terminals at LaPlace, LA, Sulphur, LA, and Vicksburg, MS. Charah Solutions’ MultiSource materials network ensures a continuity of fly ash supply for area concrete producers by barging ash from other MultiSource locations, in this case supplied with fly ash from the Zimmer Power Plant in Ohio.

Charah Solutions’ MultiSource materials network is unique distribution system of multiple sourcing locations across the country, which ensures a steady and reliable supply of Class C and Class F fly ash for ready-mix concrete producers and other Charah Solutions customers. The MultiSource network not only provides the ash in markets where it is needed, it also mitigates the need to landfill the fly ash that could otherwise be used by builders.

RESULTS

Producers were able to reliably purchase over 75,000 tons of DOT approved Class C and Class F fly ash through the MultiSource network terminals in addition to material locally-produced at CLECO Rodemacher, almost doubling Charah Solutions’ fly ash supply in the market.
