Extends MultiSource™ Fly Ash Supply Network to Erie Region
LOUISVILLE, KY (November 16, 2017) – Charah®, LLC, the nation’s largest privately-held ash management company, today announced that it recently secured an exclusive agreement to market the coal combustion products (CCPs) produced by the Scrubgrass Generating Plant in Kennerdell, Pennsylvania.
As part of this agreement, Charah will sell and market the high quality, specification grade Class F fly ash from this location for beneficial use. The Scrubgrass Generating Plant is owned by Q Power.
Through several Q Power patented technologies and processes, Scrubgrass will generate high quality Class F fly ash for use in the concrete marketplace. Charah’s innovative marketing and distribution strategies tie well with the innovative processes employed by Q Power.
Available to ship by truck, rail and barge, Charah will market the fly ash to ready mix and concrete product producers throughout the Eastern US, with a focus on Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York states. Through Charah’s MultiSource™ network of terminals, the Scrubgrass material will have the ability to be carried throughout the US, delivering quality fly ash to markets that are in short supply.
“This agreement will allow for the Scrubgrass project to be more competitive as a merchant electric generating plant, and to deliver a high quality fly ash to the market all while focusing on emissions and pollution reduction,” stated RJ Shaffer, General Manager for Scrubgrass Generating Plant.
According to Scott Ziegler, Vice President of Ash Sales and Marketing at Charah, “As one of the leading fly ash sales and marketing companies in the country, our innovative solutions and superior service will support Scrubgrass and their consumers. Our growing MultiSource network also ensures that we are able to provide a steady and reliable supply of ash for the ready mix concrete producers throughout the US.”
Concrete producers demand the quality and availability that Charah fly ash brings to every project, with all the advantages of added strength, durability, increased workability and improved finish product quality. The use of fly ash in concrete products offers benefits in both the hardened and plastic state of concrete. In addition to improving the finish product quality, using fly ash in concrete products and other applications not only eliminates the need to dispose of fly ash in landfills, it also significantly reduces the overall carbon footprint and conserves our natural resources by replacing materials that would otherwise have to be mined and processed for these products.
